Despite so many thinkers stuck in our own time, mankind has a habit of seeing the future. Ask an Englishman on the dawn of Agincourt, if England would ever find peace with France and they would have laughed in your face. Ask most today if the world can ever overcome nations and other tribal loyalties, and again, they laugh.

But some of us feel the pattern of history, and the meme is already seeded...

I am torn. My heart is truely a mess with this situation. I will not refer to Burma as Myanmar. I will not recognize that. But Burma needs aid. China needs aid. I believe that the reason for the smaller response to Chinas need from the US citizens are for two reasons. 1....Burma was the first of the two, therefor, many who could give, gave. Those hundreds of thousands (if not millions) gave monetary donations, and felt that they could not give towards Chinas needs. 2. (Though it sounds wrong and inhumane). Americans are very aware of Chinas strong push towards a more modern and more technological army. That scares us. Many may be affraid that giving money to China, may be spent towards boasting the Chinese mlitary.
Is this wrong................i do not know. I am merely trying to show what maybe the thought process of many Americans. As for me, I contributed to both causes. I can only hope that i dont live to regret either decision. In the long run, I may give me life for making the wrong call. Thank you

The most heartbreaking thing about domestic violence is, with so many options for "getting out," it still seems difficult for women to leave such situations. I know fear of reprisal is one reason, but another strong one is emotional attachment: (But I still love him! He's going to change, I know he will!).

Can anyone offer some encouragement to women who may find themselves here?

Excellent contribution, Robert. This is so true; when you find a shelter to donate to, just call them and find out what they need. Donations is how they get by much of the time...... Peace, Vanessa
